Hair Reduction
At Rewind Skin & Laser, we understand the impact the unwanted body hair can have on a person. We recognise that unwanted or excess body hair can lower self-esteem, causing embarrassment and loss of self confidence. It doesn’t have to be like that and at Rewind Skin & Laser, we can offer effective treatments
Why do I have excess hair?
This is one of the common questions that we often get asked. In some cases, it may be due to a hormonal imbalance such as in polycystic ovarian syndrome/disease or be genetic in origin such as in hirsutism. Generally though, there is no medical reason for excess body hair and the main reasons that some people have it are genetic reasons and ethnic background.
How do I temporarily remove excess body hair?
Bleaching, depilatory creams, shaving and waxing are all ways to temporarily reduce unwanted hair. The issues with these, however, is that they can irritate skin, cause chemical reactions and of course they need to be frequently repeated.
How do I permanently remove excess body hair?
Electrolysis is one option for permanent hair removal. In electrolysis, a small electric probe is inserted alongside each hair and a small electrical or heat pulse destroys the hair. This process is time consuming and painful. Electrolysis can deliver permanent hair removal.
Over time, however, it can also result in scarring. Instead of electrolysis, the team at Rewind Skin & Laser use intense pulsed light for the permanent removal of unwanted or excess hair. Our Icon IPL machine is a state of the art medical grade machine. Its light energy is absorbed by the melanin in hair follicles where it is converted to heat. The heat from the IPL injures stem cells in the bulb and bulge of the hair follicle. After a series of treatments, most clients enjoy lasting, long-lasting hair reduction.*
Reduction is considered permanent when a significant amount of hair does not return for a period of time longer than the complete growth cycle. After a series of treatments, most hair is permanently removed. However, if hair does regrow it will be finer and lighter than before.
Your skin tone and hair texture are major factors that the team at Rewind Skin & Laser will consider when recommending the best possible treatment for excess body and facial hair.
