Wrinkle Relaxers

Anti-wrinkle injections or wrinkle relaxers have been used for decades to treat dynamic wrinkles – wrinkles caused by muscular contraction. When given by trained specialist injectors, they are extremely safe and effective.

How do wrinkle relaxers work?

Wrinkle relaxers are natural, purified proteins that are carefully injected into the active muscles that cause wrinkles. In the days following injection, these muscles gradually relax, therefore leading to a smoother, softer and more youthful appearance.

Are wrinkle relaxers safe?

In regards to anti-wrinkle injections, at Rewind Skin & Laser we use the worlds number one and best known product. The dosage used is prescribed specifically for you only after a face to face consultation with one of our specially trained doctors who assesses your individual needs. All of our doctors who perform the injections are experienced in doing so, which assures your safety and they are available in the unlikely event a complication arises.

Anti-wrinkle side effects

The common side effects with any injection are bleeding, bruising and pain. These are less common in the hands of experienced injectors but still a possibility. Bruising, if it occurs, normally settles in a few days and can be concealed by makeup and treated with herbal preparations such as Arnica. Less common but more serious side effects include weakness of muscles that were not the intended target e.g. a drooping eyelid (ptosis) following brow injections. For this reason, it is always important to consider the experience and qualifications of the person performing your injections.

How much do anti-wrinkle injections cost?

At Rewind Skin & Laser, we use a premium product with prices starting at $15 per unit. Cost per area treated will vary from person to person depending on their needs and level of muscle activity and the degree of correction needed. Your exact needs and individual treatment plan and pricing will be discussed during your consult.

Crow Feet

What areas can be treated with wrinkle relaxers

Common areas that can be treated with wrinkle relaxers are crows feet around the eyes, frown lines and horizontal forehead lines. Wrinkle relaxers can also be used with advanced techniques around the mouth to treat either a downturned smile or a gummy smile. Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to soften jawlines and provide a neck lift by treating platysmal bands, the so called “turkey neck”. Wrinkle relaxers can also provide a nice eyebrow lift.

Eyebrows

When we use anti-wrinkle injections to provide an eyebrow lift, we are targetting the circular muscle that surround your eye (Orbicularis Oculi) which we normally use to shut our eyes tightly or squint. By injecting wrinle relaxer into a specific part of this muscle, it can provide a subtle eyebrow lift, thus improving or enhancing the arch of the eyebrow, which in turn gives a more feminine and youthful appearance.

Neck

Prominent bands in the neck from overactivity of the platysma muscle can create the appearance of the so called “turkey neck”. Using wrinkle relaxers into this area can relax these bands, creating a more youthful neck while also providing a small neck lift.

Crows Feet

When using wrinkle relaxers in the crows feet area, we are injecting the anti-wrinkle injection into the outside or lateral part of Orbicularis Oculi, which is the circular muscle around the eye. Normally this muscle helps us squint and forcefully close our eyes and overuse of this muscle leads to the dynamic wrinkles known as crows feet. Wrinkle relaxer targeted to this area eliminates or softens these crows feet or “smile lines”.

Frown Lines

In terms of wrinkle relaxers, this is generally considered the area between the eyebrows and nose or “glabella area”. When frowning, we use several muscles including the Corrugator, which pulls our eyebrows together and down, and Procerus, which wrinkles the skin between our eyebrows and pulls our inner eyebrows down towards our nose. By using anti-wrinkle injections into these muscles, we smooth out or eliminate these lines.

Horizontal forehead lines

These dynamic lines are caused by the muscle Frontalis which contracts when we raise our eyebrows. Several anti-wrinkle injections into this area will cause the muscle to relax, so smoothing out or eliminating lines.

Around the mouth

Wrinkle relaxer injections can be used on muscles around the mouth to improve the appearance. For example, a common complaint from patients is that the corners of their mouth are downturned and “look a bit sad”. This is often due to overactivity of muscles call the depressor anguli oris and depressor labii inferioris. Using advanced techniques to inject into this area can lift the angles of the mouth and give someone a younger, more refreshed appearance. Similarly, wrinkle relaxers can be used to treat a “gummy smile” or chin dimpling by targeting the appropriate muscles.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are one of the first choices to achieve facial enhancement and more youthful looks.

As we age, the effects of gravity, sun exposure and facial volume loss cause wrinkles and hollows to form and the tissues to sag.

With advanced cosmetic medical techniques, people are opting for non-surgical facial enhancement procedures to correct these issues rather than going for surgery.

The original dermal filler used decades ago was animal collagen, but it is never used now due to the rate of allergic reactions. All dermal fillers that are now produced are purely synthetic.

How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers work by restoring the volume in the tissue that we have lost through sun damage, ageing or weight loss.

As we age, we also lose the volume in our bones, including in our facial bones, which adds to the sagging of the face, wrinkle formations and the formation of hollows.

Dermal fillers help to restore this volume and also stimulate new collagen formation.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are very safe, once they are performed by experienced medical professionals specifically trained in their use. All dermal fillers performed at Rewind Skin & Laser are carried out by doctors who have done advanced technique training.

Dermal filler side effects

Major side effects are rare, especially when done at the hands of an experienced doctor who has excellent knowledge of the facial anatomy.

Temporary side effects such as bruising and swelling take only a few days to resolve. Major allergic reactions or blood vessel problems are extremely rare.

What types of dermal fillers are there?

There are several different types of dermal fillers.

The most commonly used type of fillers are highly sophisticated carbohydrate-based gels. These are synthetic and based on a naturally occuring substance in the body present in joints, cartilage, skin and lots of cells. It gives cells and tissues “bounce” and volume. As we age, we lose this volume and tissues sag and shrink.

There are many fillers on the market but how they differ is the size of the molecules and how these molecules are linked together; this determines how long they last, how much “bounce of lift” they provide, where they can be placed and how quickly they are re-absorbed. With dermal fillers, you really get what you pay for; more expensive premium fillers will last longer and give a much better result.

The new age of “medium term” fillers are the biostimulatory products which are made of synthetic materials that stimulate collagen production and offer longer term volume restoration.

What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?

    • Cheeks (Cheek bone augmentation)
    • Lips (to increase volume and projection)
    • Nose (Non surgical nose bridge augmentation)
    • Tear troughs (hollowing around the eyes)
    • Naso-labial folds,Vertical lip lines (smokers lines)
    • Marionette lines/jowls, Chin (To improve projection and shape)
    • Jawline (To enhance jaw definition)
    • Temples (to improve hollowing)
    • Brows (to help lift the brows)
    • Fine lines and wrinkles in the skin (by adding moisture)

After your dermal filler procedure

It is wise to ice the area for 30 minutes after the procedure and 30 minutes before going to bed, plus in the morning. An extra pillow or sleeping upright is wise to reduce swelling.

You should avoid alcohol and intense exercise for several days afterwards to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.

An aftercare sheet is given to all patients and should be closely followed. Only a small percentage of people will need a top up or a slight readjustment.

What does dermal filler treatment involve?

Treatment usually involves the application of a local anaesthetic cream to the treated area. Dermal filler gel is comfortably injected into the area once its numb. Treatment times vary depending on the amount of dermal fillers required and the area treated, but generally takes about 15 to 60 minutes.

After treatment, it is possible to apply makeup, and to go about your normal activities. Patients are advised to refrain from heavy exercise and excessive alcohol as these factors can increase the risk of bruising.

Treatment with dermal fillers sometimes does take more than one session to achieve the best results. The first treatment lays the foundation for the subsequent treatments, and future treatments allow for any adjustments to be made. The initial treatment typically requires the greatest volume of filler.

Following this, we typically are only required to perform top-ups to maintain the desired long-term outcome.

Is dermal filler treatment painful?

We aim to make your treatment as comfortable as possible and we use our unique numbing cream to numb the area to be treated. You may still have some slight discomfort but many of our patients who have had dermal filler treatments elsewhere state that we have been the least painful.

Prior to your dermal filler procedure

You should be well and healthy and have a full medical history taken. Blood thinning medications and anti-inflammatory products should be avoided. Smokers should cut down or quit at least one week before hand.

The area to be treated should be clean and dry with no make-up on. You should request a consent form to be emailed as it is beneficial to read and fully understand this before attending.

On the day of your dermal filler procedure

When you arrive your doctor will discuss the procedure with you and get you to sign a consent form. Numbing cream will be applied to the area to be treated. Small areas can be treated in 15-30 minutes. More extensive areas can take up to 60 minutes.

Lip Fillers

Apart from striking eyes, luscious, well-defined, full lips are one of the enduring symbols of beauty. We help you achieve this with lip fillers.

People may have genetically thin lips or may have acquired them through ageing, smoking and weight loss.

Lip fillers can help restore volume in the lips while also reducing wrinkles and fine lines around the lips. This can often be combined with anti-wrinkle injections to smooth lines and wrinkles.

At Rewind Skin & Laser Centre, our focus is on natural results and refreshing your look, not making you look “done or fake” and the advanced techniques used by our doctor injectors allow us to deliver that

Why do lips lose volume as we age

It is an unfortunate effect for all of us as we age that we lose volume in most areas of our faces as we age, and things start to sag and look older. In regard to lips, the muscles and soft tissue in the lips shrink as we age, hence making them look thinner.

We also get a loss of definition of the lip border, especially around the cupids bow area. As we age our skin also thins, adding to the loss of volume, whichis exacerbated by the effects of smoking and sun damage.

Why are lip fillers so popular

Almost 100% of the lip fillers that we perform are on women. For women, lips and eyes are the facial features that stand out the most and either add to or detract from their beauty.

Well balanced, symmetrical, plump lips are considered a sign of youth and beauty, hence the reason they are so popular, both among the general population and TV or movie stars and music artists.
