Skin Needling
Skin Needling, also known as Micro-Needling, Direct Needle Therapy (DNT)and Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), has become an increasingly popular treatment in Perth to treat all types of scarring, wrinkles and fine lines, sun damage, pigmentation, skin sagging and dullness. This treatment is excellent for general skin rejuvenation and wellness for most skin types.
At Rewind Skin & Laser, we use the only FDA and TGA cleared and registered medical needling device called the SkinPen® Precision, sold to medical professionals only. This is an electronic device intended to be used in combination with a sterile micro needle cartridge to create high density minute skin punctures to stimulate tissue regeneration and improve the appearance of skin. This process stimulates the natural collagen production by generating a wound healing response in the treated skin and is far superior to any skin needling roller device or older style skin needling pens.

How does Collagen Induction Therapy work?
Your therapist will use the SkinPen® Precision skin needling device to administer the treatment. This specialist device glides over the surface of your skin to create ‘micro-injuries’, this will trigger the bodies healing response. New Collagen production is stimulated as well as the surface being remodelled, Fine lines, wrinkles are plumped up and scarring and pigmentation are broken down in this process. Medical skin needling improves the thickness of the epidermis and increases blood flow and nutrients in the skin. This in return improves skin texture, pore size your overall complexion.
Before treatment, a topical anaesthetic is applied to your skin to minimise any discomfort. LED may be used during your treatment to help speed up recovery time and boost your results.
Is Skin Needling safe?
With a consultation prior to treatment and all precautions taken to minimise infection there is minimal risk to this treatment. Some patients prone to acne have reported mild and transient breakout episodes post this procedure. Post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation (PIH) can occur in darker skin types on rare occasions, this is usually temporary and will resolve itself within a few months of treatment.
Is Skin Needling painful?
Your dermal therapist will apply a topical anaesthetic cream and allow it to work for 20 minutes prior to starting the treatment. This minimises discomfort during the treatment. You may experience some mild discomfort when the topical anaesthetic wears off over time in the form of heat and sensitivity. The skin can be swollen and red after treatment lasting 24 – 48 hours.
Does Skin-Needling cause scarring?
No, as the 14 stainless steel surgical grade needles are so fine and sharp the punctures they make heal over very quickly so no visible puncture wounds are ever visible or have the potential to cause scarring.
What areas can be treated with Skin Needling?
Any area can be treated once there is no active skin inflammation or infection as any treatment can potentially make it worse. Around the eyes, we treat up to and including the bony orbital rim, eyelids are not treated. Topical anaesthetic application is limited to small surface areas so several treatments may be needed for larger surface areas.
What is the recovery time and side effects for Micro-Needling?
The inflammatory reaction of the skin is different person to person, redness and swelling that occurs will usually resolve itself within 24 -48 hours. After the topical anaesthetic wears off you may experience some heat or stinging which can be treated with an icepack if necessary, will subside on its own by the next day. Some people experience a light shed or experience dryness 3-10 days following treatment.
What should I put on my skin after Skin needling and what should I avoid?
No make-up should be work 24 hours after your treatment unless it is a full mineral powder. Our Skin needling treatment comes with an after treatment homecare cream which can be used after treatment for 3-7 days along with a mild cleanser, no actives should be used for 7 days. Your dermal therapist will prescribe you homecare products to achieve you skin goals and get the most out of your treatments. If you already have products you are loving then you can return using your chosen skincare 7 days after treatment. Please consult your therapist to assess your current products to make sure they are suitable with your service.
